Gertrude was seen, full term pregnant, running with her pack a few times before she decided that the safest place for her to deliver her puppies would be under a stranger’s trailer. Her New Year puppies were 3 days old when a team of rescuers were able to retrieve them. It is unknown how long she had been running with her pack before she was brought into foster care. Her foster family believes it was a long time. She did not know basic commands or the concept of walking on a leash (collar or harness). She has made excellent progress towards being ready for adoption. She has learned “outside” and “go to bed”. She is still shy but coming out of her shell more and more each day. She plays well with other dogs and does prefer canine companionship to human but is accepting if you want to sit down by her and pet her. Rarely, she will come to her foster family for pets but usually she waits for them to go to her. She is still very afraid to use a leash, collar or a harness and when they are put on her she basically wants to quickly find a place to hide. She would be happiest in a home where walking on a leash is not expected of her often. When adjusting to a new environment her favorite place to hide is in the bathtub. Her new family should expect that she may spend a few days in the bathtub before venturing out to explore her new surroundings. She is potty trained and is not crate trained. Her only experiences so far with crates has been with transportation and those were very scary times for her. She sleeps on a love seat in her foster parent’s room. Every once in a while she will move to join the other dogs on the bed with her foster mom. She has also climbed into bed with the family’s nine your old boy always while he is sleeping. She is very submissive to people and great with dogs. She needs a cat free home.

Gertrude's adoption fee of $200.00 includes her microchip, spay, and current DHPP and Rabies vaccine. An $11.00 license transfer fee will also be collected at time of adoption.
